The Department of Psychology at Washington College invites applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor in Counseling Psychology for the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 academic years. Preference will be given to individuals able to teach Theories and Processes of Counseling, a Psychopathology course focusing on traditional psychiatric disorders, General Psychology, and a lab or non-lab course within one’s area of expertise. The ability to contribute to other course offerings such as Mindfulness, Human Sexuality, or Multicultural Competence with Lab is highly desirable. The typical teaching load is three courses per semester, although a course with an associated experiential laboratory counts as 1.5 courses. The opportunity is also available to earn partial course credit for mentoring senior thesis projects.
Candidates should have earned a Ph.D. in Counseling, Clinical, or Community Psychology by the start date. Outstanding ABD candidates with teaching experience will also be considered. We particularly value candidates who demonstrate a passion for undergraduate education in a liberal arts setting and a desire for engaging students within and outside the classroom. Candidates are expected to hold office hours and work with the Office of Academic Skills and similar departments to support student success.
This position comes with a personal office and computer and dedicated lab/meeting space within the Psychology Department. There are department and college funds available to support teaching, research, and travel to conferences.
