Department Summary

The Department of Psychology at Bridgewater State University is pleased to announce a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in social psychology to start Fall 2023. Our department houses one of the largest undergraduate majors on campus, as well as an MPCAC-accredited Clinical Psychology MA program. We are particularly interested in hiring a teacher-scholar whose research area focuses on social justice (e.g., racial justice, social change movements, stereotyping and prejudice, intersectional approaches to social psychology, etc.) and who is interested in contributing to the diversity and excellence of our department through their teaching, research, student mentorship, and service. We are seeking candidates who understand the barriers facing students belonging to marginalized groups and who have demonstrated experience with diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice with respect to teaching, mentoring, research, life experiences, or service.

Bridgewater State University was awarded a 5-year NSF Alliances for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP) grant, which supports alliances among institutions of higher education to design and implement strategies that increase the number of historically underrepresented STEM faculty and promote systemic change. Essential Duties

The Department of Psychology at Bridgewater State University is accepting applications for a full time, tenure track Assistant Professor position in Social Psychology to start Fall 2023. This position requires teaching Research Methods 1 & 2 and Social Psychology, along with other courses, such as advanced social psychology courses. Other responsibilities include engaging in scholarly activity, mentoring undergraduate student research, advising undergraduate students, and providing service to the department and university.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must have completed their Ph.D. in Social Psychology on or before September 1, 2023.

Applicants should have the ability to meet the responsibilities identified above and present evidence of excellent teaching, scholarship, and commitment to diversity, inclusion, and social justice. Applicants should have experience as the primary instructor for at least one psychology course.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants who are strongly committed to justice, equity, inclusion, and diversity in higher education. They should also have the potential for teaching excellence, the ability to work collaboratively, a commitment and ability to mentor undergraduate students in research, and a commitment to public higher education. The Psychology Department particularly seeks applications from members of underrepresented groups in higher education who are interested in contributing to the university’s teaching and social justice missions.
