The Department of Psychology at Arizona State University invites applications for a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor with an anticipated start date of August 2024. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure-eligible position renewable on an academic year basis (August 16 to May 15) contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the university.
The Psychology Department is managing Arizona State University’s Neuroscience major, including the development and implementation of online courses. The successful candidate will be expected to teach four sections (likely a mix of online and in-person) per semester at the undergraduate level in support of both the Neuroscience and Psychology majors. Assigned courses will typically include one or more foundational courses (e.g., Introduction to Neuroscience, Research Methods), along with one or more upper-division breadth courses in Cognitive Neuroscience and Cognitive Psychology. The successful candidate will join an active, committed group of teaching and research faculty in delivering high quality undergraduate courses, and will be expected to participate in service to the university and profession as appropriate. Teaching Professor positions include the potential for promotion within the Teaching Professor ranks (Assistant, Associate, and Full) and opportunities for summer teaching.
Required qualifications include:
(1) Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Psychology, or closely related discipline by the time of appointment.
(2) Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty, staff, students, and communities to advance the principles of the ASU Charter.
Desired qualifications include:
(1) Experience teaching undergraduate neuroscience and/or psychology courses.
(2) Expertise in cognition, broadly construed.
(3) Experience with multiple teaching modalities, including online course development and teaching.
(4) Familiarity with “best practices” in undergraduate education.
(5) Professional engagement with students in and out of the classroom.
