The Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Fairfield University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor position to begin in the Fall semester of the 2024-2025 academic year, pending final budgetary approval. Candidates should have scholarly interests in social psychology, cultural psychology, or health psychology, a strong background in quantitative methods, and a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching. Applicants are expected to have completed a Ph.D. in psychology or a related field, but strong ABD candidates who expect their degree by Fall 2024 will also be considered.

The teaching load is 3 courses per semester. Courses will include psychological statistics and research methods, as well as introductory and specialty courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. There may also be opportunities for interested candidates to teach in the department’s industrial/organizational psychology master’s degree program. Candidates are expected to establish an active research program that can involve undergraduates and to engage in appropriate service to the department, the university, and/or the broader community.

The department consists of twelve full-time faculty representing a range of specialties and is housed in a spacious, well-equipped facility in the Bannow Science Center. There is a vibrant culture of undergraduate student-faculty research that is supported by departmental and university resources (e.g., student subject pool, student research grant programs), and a growing institutional emphasis on the health sciences. Psychology is one of the largest majors in the College of Arts & Sciences, offering a Psychology Club, a large internship program, and chapters of Sigma Xi and Psi Chi. The Department also offers a major in behavioral neuroscience and a master’s program in industrial/organizational psychology. The minimum starting salary for those with a Ph.D. at the time of appointment is $94,074, and the benefits for the position are highly competitive. Fairfield University is a Jesuit institution, consistently ranked as a top comprehensive university in New England, located in the scenic shoreline community of Fairfield, CT, one hour from New York City along Long Island Sound. Our five Colleges and Professional Schools enroll approximately 4,700 undergraduate and 1,200 graduate students.
