The Department of Psychology at Arizona State University seeks to hire one person at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor or Associate Teaching Professor, depending on experience, with an anticipated start date of August 2023.

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure-eligible position renewable on an academic year basis (August 16th to May 15th) contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the university. We encourage applicants to apply who would enhance the inclusiveness and diversity of our department.

The Psychology Department administers Arizona State University’s Neuroscience major, including the development and implementation of online courses. The successful candidate will be expected to teach four sections (likely a mix of online and in-person) per semester at the undergraduate level in support of the Neuroscience major. Assigned courses will typically include one or more foundational courses (e.g., Introduction to Neuroscience, Research Methods), along with one or more upper-division breadth courses in the candidate’s area. We have an active, committed group of teaching faculty who are well-integrated into the department. The successful candidate would join this group and research faculty in delivering high-quality undergraduate courses and will be expected to participate in service to the university and profession as appropriate. Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor position includes the potential for promotion within the Teaching Professor rank and opportunities for summer teaching.

    Minimum Qualifications include:

Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Psychology, Biology, or closely related discipline by the time of appointment.

Teaching experience in a university setting

    Desired qualifications include:

           Experience teaching undergraduate neuroscience courses.

Experience with multiple teaching modalities, including online course development and teaching.

Engagement in evidence-based and reflective teaching practices in undergraduate education.

Professional engagement with students in and out of the classroom.

Demonstrated success in meeting the needs of diverse student populations and/or reaching out to diverse communities.

Applicants are expected to give a teaching demonstration if invited to interview.

To apply, please submit the following as pdf(s) through Interfolio at http://apply.interfolio.com/117868: (1) a letter of application; (2) curriculum vitae or resume; (3) statement of teaching philosophy; (4) if available, syllabi and course-related material (including evaluations) for no more than two courses you have taught; (5) a statement addressing how your leadership, commitment, and experiences with diversity, equity, and inclusion will advance ASU’s commitment to inclusive excellence; and (6) three letters of recommendation, which should be uploaded by your recommenders to Interfolio directly. Email and paper applications will not be accepted.

Inquiries concerning the search should be addressed to the Co-Chair of the Search Committee, Carolyn Cavanaugh Toft, at carolyn.cavanaugh@asu.edu. Be sure to include “Neuroscience Teaching Professor Search” in the subject line when sending e-mails.

Initial deadline for receipt of complete applications is January 4, 2023. If not filled, review of complete applications will continue every two weeks thereafter until the search is closed.
