    Position Summary

    UIW is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Psychology beginning August 2023 with a specialty in one for the following:

    • Clinical Psychology, 
    • Counseling Psychology, or 
    • Community Clinical/Counseling Psychology.

    Position will teach psychology in a variety of modalities; although the majority of classes are face-to-face, some may include online instruction as necessary.  

    Full-time faculty at UIW are expected to teach four courses in the fall semester and four courses in the spring semester, as well as develop skills in serving various student populations including Latinx, veterans, first generation students, and others.  In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the American Psychological Association's ethics code and the UIW Mission.

    This position is considered a "Responsible Employee" under Title IX federal regulations and "Mandatory Reporter" under Texas state law and the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about Title IX violations. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. 

    Essential Functions

    Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service, and professional activities.  Note that full-time faculty are expected to be flexible, as course assignments are based on student and department needs, so multiple course preparations are to be expected.

    • Teach a variety of undergraduate courses in Psychology consistent with the needs of the department.
    • Participate in curriculum development.
    • Advise students and provide individual help to students during weekly office hours.
    • Perform regular scholarly research and publication.
    • Provide service to the department, college, university, community, and profession.
    • Comply with UIW Faculty Handbook processes and policies.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities

    • Effective instructional delivery; ability to actively engage students in the learning process;
    • Knowledge and skills to teach undergraduate courses in psychology;
    • Competence in the use of instructional technology;
    • Demonstrated proficiency in psychological science and related fields;
    • Demonstrated active research;
    • Ability to conduct respectful relationships with students both in and outside the classroom;
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with department faculty, students, and those in other disciplines and innovate to support the mission of the University;
    • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
    • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

    Required Education

    Earned Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology from an American Psychological Association-accredited program or equivalent international program,  OR earned doctorate in Community Clinical/ Counseling Psychology by assignment start date.

    Required Work Experience

    Experience with undergraduate teaching, community service, and research.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Candidates with training and interest in teaching statistics and research methods courses in addition to teaching courses in their respective area of specialization.
    • Specialty in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or Community Clinical/Counseling Psychology.
    • Experience in teaching introductory and advanced courses in specialty area.
    • Experience teaching about substance use disorders.
    • Training and interest in teaching statistics and research methods courses.
    • Strong commitment to undergraduate teaching.
    • Experience and training in teaching online using a learning management system.
    • Experience teaching diverse student populations.
    • Teaching, research, or service reflecting values of social/racial justice and/or Catholic social teachings.
    • Collaboration with or supervision of student research.
