    Job Description Summary

    The Department of Social Sciences is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time faculty position to teach Psychology courses at our center locations in and around the South Hampton Roads, Hampton, Langley AFB, Virginia Beach, Newport News, and Chesapeake areas. This appointment is twelve (12) months with eight (8) weeks of release time to be determined in consultation with the department chair and center director at our South Hampton Roads location. An exceptional candidate possessing a doctorate degree with extensive online experience may be considered at the Associate level.
    The successful candidate will teach 8 courses per academic year (2 courses per 8-week term). This position is pending final budgetary approval.

    Job Description

    Duties and Tasks:

    · Teach 8 classes per year;

    · Advise and mentor students;

    · Engage in curriculum development;

    · Support recruiting efforts;

    · Demonstrate professional development

    · Undertake community service in keeping with the school’s Benedictine values;

    · Ability to teach traditional and non-traditional age students in non-traditional settings; and

    · Demonstrate comfort with teaching-related technology.

    · May perform other related tasks as assigned by the Department Chair, Dean and/or Vice President for Academic Affairs



    · Must possess an earned doctorate in psychology from a regionally accredited institution

    · Area of specialization is open.


    · Demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate students

    · Demonstrated experience teaching non-traditional student populations.

    · Knowledge of the online instructional environment is preferred

    · Evidence or promise of professional development and scholarly research

    • Three (3) Letters of Recommendation – All letters of recommendation should be professional references and at least one (1) from a recent superior. If you do not have those documents at the time of application, please upload a text or word document stating, "Recommendations will be sent independently."  Recommendation letters can be mailed to Academic Affairs at the address stated below
    • Student Evaluations (six classes minimum) – Student evaluations from the last year (at least six classes, an even mix of graduate and undergraduate).
    • Teaching Certifications and Evidence – Teaching assignments specifically in the Education discipline require the following additional documents must be included and uploaded with your all-includes document file. (Education specific disciplines only – for other disciplines please upload a word document that states, “N/A does not apply).
      • Teaching Certificate
      • Evidence of clinical educator training
      • Evidence of 60 hours of ESOL training


    Official transcripts are required for all adjuncts and all final full-time faculty candidates

    Official transcripts for Master, Graduate, and Doctorate degrees are required to complete your application packet and are to be issued directly to Saint Leo University from the respective education institution.*

    Transcripts that are “Issued to Student” or issued to another institution are not accepted. Digital and/or electronic transcripts cannot be accepted at this time.

    World Education Services (WES) Evaluation – A certified evaluation and translation from World Education Services (WES) is required for foreign transcripts and/or any and all degrees obtained from international universities.  Expenses for official transcripts are the responsibility of the applicant.
