                The Department of Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the level of Lecturer I in Psychology to teach undergraduate courses, pending budgetary approval. In addition to teaching, Lecturers in Psychology have the opportunity to mentor undergraduates in teaching and research, mentor graduate students in teaching Psychology, and participate in a vibrant, teaching-focused community within the department and the University. This position, which is outside of the tenure stream, would begin in the Fall 2020 semester. Initial appointment is for one year, and may be renewed for one-year appointments for up to two additional years. In the third year, subsequent renewals of three years may be recommended, subject to performance reviews and departmental needs.                 The successful candidate will teach six undergraduate courses (or equivalent) per academic year. Required qualifications are a PhD or equivalent in Psychology or a related field and evidence of high-quality teaching in Psychology at the undergraduate level. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated commitment to teaching; demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; and commitment to participation in the department’s teaching community.  Preference will also be given to candidates with the ability to teach at least two of the following core courses: Cognitive Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Social Psychology, Biopsychology, and Psychopathology, and the ability to teach additional courses, including Introduction to Psychology, Research Methods, laboratory-based courses, upper level courses in a specialty area, and courses that have a diversity focus.

                 Candidates should submit a letter of application, a curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy, examples of course syllabi and materials, evaluations of teaching, up to three letters of recommendation, and a statement of their contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The diversity, equity, and inclusion statement should include the candidate’s understanding of these issues, their record of activities to date, and their specific plans and goals for helping to advance equity and inclusion at the University of Pittsburgh.
