    Job Description:

    Mount Saint Mary's University, Traditional Undergraduate (TUG) Psychology Program is seeking a Full Time Faculty Assistant Professor, Contractually Limited Term (CLT) position commencing August 2024. This full-time and benefitted position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven program emphasizing social justice, inclusivity, and the liberal arts tradition.

    Hiring Annual Salary range: $66,560- $68,560

    Hiring salary can be above the posted pay range if candidate's qualifications are determined to be above the minimum requirements of the position description.

    This is a non-tenure line position; the position is one year in length but can be renewed annually if all areas of faculty responsibilities are met. After completing five successful contract years, the faculty member's contract may be renewed for up to five additional years. Contracts may be renewed continually for up to five years during the final year of each term. Faculty members in CLT positions can apply for promotion in rank: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor.

    Key Responsibilities

    Success in this position will require the faculty member to complete the following key responsibilities.

    Teaching: Teach engaging courses with a teaching load of 7 courses per academic year (i.e., three courses in one semester and four in the other). This position is a 9-month position covering the fall and spring semesters.

    Advising and Mentoring: Provide academic advisement and mentorship to students, with a focus on fostering the academic and professional growth of first-generation and underrepresented minority students.

    Scholarship: Engage in scholarly activities (e.g., conducting research studies) that contribute to the academic field of psychology and enhance students' learning experience. Must mentor MSMU undergraduate students in the research experience.

    Service: Participate actively in departmental and university service, contributing to the vibrant community of Mount Saint Mary's University.

    The applicant must hold a doctoral degree in psychology or a related field or be ABD, expecting the degree to be completed before August 22, 2024. Applicants should demonstrate excellence in teaching, advising, and research (individually and with students). Applicants should be interested in undergraduate teaching and have the potential to implement pedagogically sound practices in and outside the classroom (i.e., student advising, mentorship, and research), especially with underrepresented minority (URM) students.

    An appreciation of the liberal arts educational tradition, service orientation, and interest in contributing to and teaching in a diverse campus environment are desirable. This position is centered in the traditional undergraduate program and starts in August 2024.


    Requirements:

    • Doctoral degree in psychology or a related field; ABD candidates considered with the expectation of degree completion before August 22nd.
    • Teaching Excellence: Demonstrated excellence in teaching and a commitment to innovative, evidence-based pedagogical practices. Teach within your expertise and at least two of the following courses: research methods, statistics, cognitive psychology, or biological psychology.
    • Advising and Mentorship: Potential for impactful advising and mentorship, particularly with underrepresented student populations.
    • Commitment to Diversity: A strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education, with an appreciation for the liberal arts educational tradition.
