The University of Portland’s Department of Psychological Sciences invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions one in Cognitive Psychology, and one in Clinical/Counseling Psychology beginning August 15, 2024.

For the Cognitive Psychology position the successful candidate will teach a combination of upper-level and introductory undergraduate courses, including Psychological Science (PSY101), Cognition, Research Methods, and upper-division courses in their specialty. Our Research Methods courses include the development of student writing skills. Upper-division teaching could ideally contribute to understanding the biological basis of behavior through courses such as Learning or Cognitive Neuroscience.

Research could include any work in cognitive psychology, broadly defined. Beyond regular service obligations, an interest in building a program that provides research experiences for undergraduate students at an institution with a modest research infrastructure is valued.

For full consideration, applications must be received by October 13, 2023. Full information for applicants is available at  https://uportland.peopleadmin.com/postings/870

For the Clinical/Counseling position the successful candidate will be prepared to teach three courses per semester (informed by inclusive, evidence-based instructional practices). Teaching responsibilities are flexible but will emphasize upper-division courses in clinical or counseling psychology. The capacity to teach advanced research methods (focusing on scientific writing) is also highly valued.

The University of Portland is a comprehensive Catholic university grounded in the liberal arts with a primarily undergraduate student population.  University of Portland faculty typically teach three courses per semester, advise majors, conduct research, and serve the department, the College, and the University. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to excellent undergraduate teaching, including attention to evidence-based instructional practices, and potential for productive research in the context of a primarily undergraduate teaching institution.
