    Description

The Department of Psychological Sciences at Rice University (Houston, Texas) is now accepting applications for a full-time, benefits-eligible non-tenure-track lecturer position to begin in Fall 2023. The candidate should have a Ph.D. in Psychology or a related field by the start of the appointment. This is a two-year appointment with the strong possibility of renewal, contingent on performance.

Rice University has a promotable teaching professor track for those with the promise and commitment to become pedagogical leaders in their discipline, and the successful applicant could eventually be eligible for an appointment to that track.

The successful applicant will teach six undergraduate courses a year, split across the Fall and Spring semesters. We are seeking individuals to teach a broad range of psychology electives in the area of the lecturer’s expertise, or in fulfillment of a departmental need, including developmental psychology, psychology of language, psychology of gender, personality psychology, perception, psychopathology, and neuroscience, just to name a few. The candidate may also be asked to teach a large introductory course in psychology, an introductory course in cognitive psychology, or a course in research methods.

Salary for the lectureship is $65,000 and moving expenses are not included with the position

We encourage everyone to apply, especially those individuals who have been historically underrepresented in academia: people of color, LGBTQI people, women, people with disabilities, veterans, people of any age or family status. We strive to actively counter prejudice and to create a working environment that is inclusive and equitable.

The Department of Psychological Sciences trains doctoral students in cognitive and affective neuroscience; health psychology; Human Factors/Human-Computer Interaction (HF/HCI); and industrial/organizational (I/O) psychology. The Department also offers professional master’s programs in our HF/HCI and I/O programs.

Rice University is a comprehensive research university located in the heart of Houston’s dynamic Museum District and adjacent to the Texas Medical Center. It offers undergraduate and graduate degrees across eight schools and has a student body of approximately 4,000 undergraduate and 3,000 graduate students. Rice consistently ranks among the top 20 national universities and the top 10 in undergraduate teaching (US News & World Report); its endowment ranks among the top 20 of US universities. In 2021, the Department of Psychological Sciences was ranked 6th in Best Colleges for Psychology in America by Niche. More information about the department is available on our website: www.psychology.rice.edu.

The deadline for receipt of applications is July 1, 2023. Ph.D. is required by time of appointment. Application materials include: (1) cover letter, (2) CV, (3) teaching statement, (4) evidence of teaching effectiveness, (5) a description of how you would contribute to the development of a diverse and inclusive learning community at Rice through your teaching, research, and/or service, and (6) three letters of recommendation.
