    QUALIFICATIONS AND DUTIES FOR AN ASSISTANT PROFESSOR POSITION

    Candidates must have a doctorate (Ph.D. or equivalent) in psychology. Area of specialization is open. ABD will be considered but the degree must be completed by the effective date of the appointment. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to successfully teach psychology at the university level and provide a record of scholarly activity, such as presentations at professional conferences and publications. Skills in advising, engaging undergraduates in social science research, serving on departmental and university committees, and developing curriculum are required.

    THE DEPARTMENT

    The course of study for psychology majors is based on a generalist model that is designed to prepare students for a variety of fields within psychology as well as in related disciplines, especially graduate school. Emphasis is given to psychology as both a natural and social science within the framework of a liberal arts and sciences education. Students take a wide array of courses fostering research, social and developmental skills, and an understanding of neurological bases of thinking and behavior.
