    Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

    The Department of Psychology at Iowa State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty member at the rank of assistant or associate professor in our APA-accredited Counseling Psychology program. We have a strong interest in bringing in a faculty member who can help to deepen our multicultural expertise in research, teaching, and/or clinical training. Area of research expertise is open, although preference will be given to areas involving the psychology of identity, cultural diversity and/or health (all broadly defined). In addition, we are looking for a candidate who has a desire to become the Director of Training at a time that is professionally appropriate and commensurate with rank.

    Responsibilities for this position include conducting research, teaching undergraduate and graduate classes, advising doctoral students, and providing service to the department and university. A hire at the associate level will also serve as Director of Training, coordinating the academic and clinical training elements of the doctoral program, as well as serving as liaison and program lead with APA.

    Required Minimum Qualifications:

    • PhD in Counseling Psychology (must be conferred by the start date of the appointment) or a closely related field

    • Licensed or license-eligible in the state of Iowa

    • Associate Professor candidates must also meet the university standards for appointment to the rank, including significant experience/accomplishments in the candidate’s area of expertise.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Existing record of excellence in programmatic research/scholarship relevant to Counseling Psychology

    • Scholarly expertise in the psychology of identity, intersectionality, and/or cultural diversity

    • Scholarly expertise in health psychology applicable to Counseling Psychology domains

    • Record of external funding and/or promise of ability to secure external funding commensurate with rank

    • Existing record of excellence in undergraduate and/or graduate teaching and mentoring

    • Previous experience and interest in academic leadership positions (e.g., Counseling Psychology Director of Training)

    • Candidates at the level of Associate Professor, in addition to the above, should demonstrate accomplishments in research, teaching and service commensurate with the rank of Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Iowa State University.

    The Counseling Psychology program at Iowa State is an APA-accredited program (since 1973) and has been consistently ranked within the top Counseling Psychology programs in the country for research productivity during the last 15 years.
