Job Description:

The Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Fairfield University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track assistant professor position to begin in the 2023-2024 academic year. Applicants should have teaching expertise and scholarly interests in developmental, applied developmental, or community psychology, as well as a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching. Applicants are expected to have completed a Ph.D. in psychology or a related field, but strong ABD candidates will also be considered.

The teaching load is typically 3 courses per semester. One of these is a developmental psychology course that includes a community-engaged learning component. Additional courses may include lifespan developmental psychology, cross-cultural development, adult development and aging, psychological statistics, research methods, general psychology, and courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated record of community-engaged teaching and an interest in student/faculty collaborative research.

The department consists of twelve full-time faculty representing a range of specialties and is housed in a spacious, well-equipped facility in the Bannow Science Center. There is a vibrant culture of undergraduate student-faculty research and a growing institutional emphasis on the health sciences. Psychology is one of the largest majors in the College of Arts & Sciences, offering a Psychology Club, a large internship program, and chapters of Sigma Xi and Psi Chi. The Department also offers a major in behavioral neuroscience and a master’s program in industrial/organizational psychology. The salary and benefits for the position are highly competitive.
