    The Psychology Department at Sacramento State invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position to begin in Fall 2020 with expertise in the psychology of gender. The Department strives to further Sacramento State’s identity as an institution that welcomes and embraces diversity. We strongly encourage applications from candidates who can demonstrate through their prior experience or potential in areas of teaching, research, and/or service that they can contribute to the diversity and inclusive excellence of our community.

    The position is open to all sub-disciplines relevant to the psychological study of gender. These include, but are not limited to, social, personality, developmental, clinical, cultural, community psychology, and health psychology. Candidates with a background in teaching and/or scholarship that critically examines people’s lived intersectional realities in regard to gender, gender identity, sexual minority status, race, ethnicity, immigration status, SES, etc. are particularly encouraged to apply.
    Required qualifications include:

    • Ph.D. in Psychology or a closely related field, from an accredited university. ABD candidates will be considered. If ABD, all requirements for the degree must be completed by January 2021.
    • Strong background in the psychological study of gender, with a focus on people’s lived intersectional realities.
    • Substantial potential or demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses.
    • Proven ability to conduct original and meaningful empirical research.
    • Knowledge of and commitment to diversity and issues of just, equitable, and inclusive education.
    • Potential or demonstrated ability to mentor and support students from diverse backgrounds.
    • Ability to work collegially in a multicultural environment.

    Preferred qualifications include:

    • Teaching experience in the field of Psychology or a related field at the college level.
    •  Ability and desire to teach the Psychology of Women.
    • Ability and desire to contribute to other teaching needs within the department, such as the Psychology of Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity, the Psychology of Human Sexuality, introductory psychology, research methods, quantitative and/or qualitative methods and other courses within the candidate’s expertise.    
    • A woman-of-color or global feminist perspective with an emphasis on intersectionality.
    • Interest and ability in using a wide variety of teaching methodologies, including feminist pedagogical practices.
    • Research experience in the psychological study of gender. The preferred candidate will have substantial potential or the demonstrated ability to conduct a program of empirical research on the psychological study of gender that extends beyond the treatment of gender as a variable, and instead considers gender as a social construction, with a focus upon intersectionality, lived-experiences and/or other more nuanced ways of understanding gender and gender identity.
