    Job Description

    The Department of Psychology invites applications for a full-time lecturer to begin August 10, 2024. There is the possibility of contract renewal for three years, as well as teaching additional courses during the summer and winter teaching sessions. The position involves teaching undergraduate courses such as social psychology, cultural psychology, research methods, and others based on the candidate's interest and experience that enhance our curriculum. The position is 90% teaching with a 4/4 course load plus other duties (lab supervision), with a 10% service expectation. The successful candidate will participate in department meetings and activities. Teaching modes are primarily in person with some hybrid opportunities on occasion.

    The Department of Psychology at Virginia Tech currently has 29 tenure track faculty, 1 collegiate faculty member, 1 clinical faculty member, 2 instructional faculty, and 8 support staff. The department trains 60 graduate students and over 900 undergraduate students each year. The department is housed in the College of Science and is central to the College and University’s motto “Ut Prosim”, or “that I may serve” as a department devoted to the service of humanity through Psychological Science.     Required Qualifications

    A Ph.D., or anticipation of receiving a Ph.D. in Psychology or a closely related field is required by appointment start date. 

    The successful applicant will have teaching experience at the undergraduate level in courses in Psychology, or other classes directly relevant to the position.

    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary, with experience interacting with diverse students.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Familiarity with learning systems (CANVAS or similar).

    Documentation of high-levels of teaching effectiveness is preferred.
