    The School of Psychology at the University of Southern Mississippi invites applications for one, full-time, tenure track, 9-month, Assistant Professor position beginning August 2023. This is an exciting opportunity to join a diverse experimental psychology doctoral program in the School of Psychology. The Brain & Behavior (Experimental) program is one of four doctoral programs in the School of Psychology. The Experimental doctoral program offers generalist training in research-based approaches to Psychology in several different research areas. The research area of specialization for this position is open, though we are especially interested in candidates whose training backgrounds complement or enhance our current concentrations, particularly in the areas of Cognitive Psychology, Quantitative Psychology, and Developmental Psychology including Adult Development and Aging. The Experimental Psychology doctoral program emphasizes research mentorship, diversity, and undergraduate and graduate teaching. Our faculty have established records of scholarship in the areas of memory, aging and cognition, sensation and perception, evolutionary psychology, health psychology, and social cognition. We aim to recruit applicants who will produce impactful research with the potential to secure extramural funding, and who will emphasize training doctoral students to become productive and thoughtful scientists.

    The School of Psychology has approximately 600 undergraduate majors and 125 graduate students across three APA-accredited doctoral programs (Counseling, Clinical, & School), a doctoral program in Experimental Psychology and a MPCAC Accredited Master’s program in Counseling Psychology. A completed application will include 1) a cover letter describing strengths and qualifications for the position, 2) a CV, 3) names and contact information for three references (letters will be requested following initial review), 4) academic transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable) 5) ) a research statement describing the applicant's program of research and impact, 6) a teaching philosophy statement including evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., sample course syllabi, teaching peer-reviews, etc.), and 7) up to three representative manuscript reprints.     Primary Duties and Responsibilities  
    1.         Develop and maintain a strong program of research.
    2.            Teach a combination of undergraduate and graduate classes.
    3.            Seek extramural funding.
    4.            Contribute to the mission of the university and profession through service activities.  
    5.            Perform other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Minimum qualifications include a doctoral degree in experimental psychology or related fields (by August 2023)

    Preferred Qualifications 
    Demonstrated record of, or potential for, conducting research, obtaining extramural funding, and high-quality teaching and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students.
