The Psychology Department at Franklin & Marshall College invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting Instructor (depending on qualifications) for academic year 2023-2024. Applicants should possess or be close to completing a doctoral degree in Psychology or a related field. Appointment is for nine months (August-May) with possibility of renewal for a second or third academic year contingent on teaching performance, needs of the department, and administrative approval.

The department is committed to excellence in both teaching and scholarship and our curriculum emphasizes student research and laboratory experience.  We seek a candidate prepared to teach Introductory Psychology with lab as well as upper-level courses on one or more of the following topics: Cross-Cultural Psychology, Personality, Emotion, Evolutionary Psychology, Conditioning & Learning, Animal Behavior, or Biopsychology. Teaching load is 5 classes and 1 lab or 4 classes and 3 labs per academic year. Area of research specialization is open; research support and laboratory space are available.

Please submit seven items: a cover letter describing your alignment with the specifications above; a curriculum vitae; graduate transcripts (for verification of degree status); contact information for two references; a teaching statement describing your teaching philosophy and practices; evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., student or peer evaluations, sample syllabi, assignments); and a diversity statement addressing how your professional experience has prepared you to teach and mentor young people with diverse personal experiences, values, and worldviews arising from differences of culture and circumstance. For full consideration, these materials must be submitted through Interfolio (apply.interfolio.com/119845) by February 8, 2023.

Inquiries may be directed to Dr. Christina Abbott at cabbott@fandm.edu. Candidates who advance to the interview stage will be asked to have their references submit letters via Interfolio (within 3 weeks of a request).
