The Department of Psychological Sciences at the University of Missouri, a public land-grant research university in Columbia, invites applications for full-time (non-tenure-track) faculty position as an Assistant Teaching Professor to begin August 2023. The position is a nine-month appointment and teaching responsibilities are during the fall and spring semesters.

The Department of Psychological Sciences is committed to excellence in undergraduate education to students it serves through degrees, minors and certificates, and the campus general education curriculum. Many of our courses are taught face-to-face, although hybrid and online courses are an essential part of our semester schedule. We offer the Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts (BA) degrees on campus and the BA degree online, and currently serve over 1250 students across our three degree programs.

The University of Missouri values and respects the contributions of NTT faculty. Contract lengths vary depending on length of service and rank. NTT faculty may participate in departmental, college, and university governance.

Duties will include teaching face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online undergraduate courses under a load of four courses in the Fall semester and four courses in the Spring semester (80% of work effort). The search committee is seeking candidates who can teach a wide variety of courses, with a strong focus for a person to effectively teach those in our research methods sequence (research design, statistics in psychology, and advanced research courses that include scientific writing). This position could teach additional lecture or discussion courses in their field of interest and expertise that fit departmental needs. We are especially interested in candidates who would also allow us to add to our course offerings in the psychological science of diversity, inclusion and equity. This position will teach a variety of class enrollment sizes based on departmental need, and teaching a large lecture section (e.g., more than 200 students) each semester should be expected. In addition to teaching courses, Assistant Teaching Professors serve on committees, participate in student development activities, and perform administrative duties (20% of work effort).

The Department of Psychological Sciences values the variety of perspectives and knowledge that diversity brings to our community. The department is committed to promoting diversity in research, teaching, and faculty/student recruitment in all its forms – race/ethnicity, identity, culture, background, experience, status, abilities, and opinions—through inclusive practices, policies, curricula, and programs that lead to a welcoming, respectful, supportive, and affirming environment.

The minimum qualifications include an all-but-dissertation (ABD) in psychology or a closely related discipline.

Candidates will be evaluated on: (1) experience teaching at the college level, (2) demonstrated success at teaching, (3) success in working with a diverse population of students, (4) pedagogical knowledge for on-campus and/or online teaching, (5) highest level of education.

We strongly encourage those with the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to apply; (1) an earned Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in psychology, (2) experience teaching multiple courses, including research methods at the college level, (3) a proven track record of effective teaching at the undergraduate level in both online and on-campus courses, (4) a commitment to diversity, inclusion and equity in their teaching and scholarship, and (5) scholarship in pedagogy in psychology and/or higher education.

We offer a competitive salary and benefits. In addition, the University of Missouri has a strong climate for undergraduate education and our department has a highly interactive and cooperative faculty.
