The Psychology Department at the University of Illinois Springfield invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level beginning August 16, 2019. This is a full-time on-campus position and benefit-eligible tenure-track academic appointment. UIS tenure-system faculty are expected to be available and engaged in the campus community, with assigned professional responsibilities for teaching, scholarship, and service. The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. in Psychology with specialized training in Social Psychology from an accredited university prior to the start date. College teaching experience is preferred, and experience pursuing innovative and engaging teaching strategies is desirable. The applicant should demonstrate potential for scholarship and/or research in a specialty area.
The successful applicant will be assigned a teaching load of PSY 201- Principles of Psychology, PSY 302 - Research Methods in Psychology, and PSY 331 – Social Psychology in the fall of 2019. The applicant will be assigned a teaching load of PSY 201 Principles of Psychology and two courses in the candidate’s specialty area in the spring of 2020. The candidate will be expected to teach some courses in an online format. Course selection may depend on the background and qualifications of the successful applicant and the availability of adjunct instructors to teach certain psychology courses. Normal teaching load is three courses per semester. Opportunities to mentor undergraduate research are available. This individual will engage in scholarly and service activities appropriate to his or her professional development. Numerous department level duties are shared by all of the faculty members of the department. Thus, this faculty member will be expected to participate in department meetings, serve on various department committees, and carry out other activities as needed (e.g., coordinating student assessments or collecting data for program reviews). A number of committees within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and university-wide are staffed by faculty members. This individual will be expected to share these responsibilities. In addition, he or she will be expected at times to serve on post-tenure review committees of tenured faculty. University regulations establish criteria for performance evaluations of faculty for retention, promotion, and tenure. In general, the regulations require excellence in the area of teaching. In addition, the faculty member should demonstrate a cumulative record of high quality in the combination of categories of scholarship and service provided that his or her performance is, at a minimum, satisfactory in both categories.
