    Georgia College seeks a Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL). This position provides leadership and vision for the continuous improvement of teaching and learning. The individual is directly responsible for developing strategies, services, and support for faculty and staff for effective teaching practices and student success. The Director facilitates collaborative initiatives with academic and support units across campus that foster best practices in teaching and learning. Two other key areas of responsibility are creating and pursuing an agenda supporting pedagogical research and scholarship and overseeing faculty development programming that advances Georgia College’s liberal arts mission.

    Georgia College, Georgia's designated public liberal arts university, is located in historic Milledgeville, Georgia, very near the geographic center of the state. Milledgeville, the antebellum capital of Georgia, is a center of history and culture featuring beautiful antebellum homes and historic buildings. The University enhances the town's beauty with its architectural blending of majestic buildings of red brick and white Corinthian columns. The University was founded 1889 and the main campus encompasses 43 acres serving 7,000 undergraduate and graduate students.

    Directing

    • Facilitate new initiatives and encourage collaborations among curricular and co-curricular programs supporting effective teaching and learning on campus through a variety of instructional modalities.
    • Collaborate with various entities including faculty, academic units, University Senate, IT and Library on quality improvement processes that enhance design and planning of curricula, courses, learning environments, and faculty development.
    • Provide leadership and planning for all instructional and curricular development activities designed to support Georgia College’s teaching community.
    • Promote inclusive excellence in teaching and the infusion of diversity into the curriculum/classroom.

     

    Program Development

    • Facilitate and support campus collaborations in the scholarship of teaching and learning.
    • Collaborate with the Academic Coordinating Council Advisory Committee members and any subcommittee members to address recommendations for faculty development, program design and delivery, and student support.
    • Maintain expertise of trends in higher education, innovations, research, and best practices for using technology to improve learning outcomes.
    • Demonstrate expertise working with system-level and campus-wide course/learning management and delivery tools, including Universal Design and online course compliance.

    Administration

    • Develop the CTL mission and strategic plan and updates as appropriate.
    • Manage the departmental budget. Supervise professional, technical, and support staff within the unit.
    • Analyzes and assesses outcomes for all CTL Programs each semester. Aggregates data for an annual report.
    • Maintain knowledge of developments in learning and teaching nationally and internationally and where appropriate to these developments through contributions to conferences, workshops, publications etc.
    • Provide oversight for all communications related to the Center and services offered.

    Required Skills

    • Earned doctorate within an academic discipline, faculty status upon appointment will be considered.
    • Minimum of 3+ years of successful full time administrative and management level experience including staff supervision (hiring and annual reviews), and budget management.
    • Evidence of excellent teaching in higher education & current educational research.
    • Proven organizational skills including ability to be flexible, creative and work collaboratively with others.
    • Track record of engaging with diverse stakeholders and colleagues to craft a common vision and direction.
